I picked up this book along with a few others and found this one to superior. It is well laid out, very clear and has pretty much all the information you would need if you are a tutor or thinking of becoming one.

This book answered many questions about how to properly start and run a tutoring business. It is written in easy-to-understand language with helpful tips on many pages. The example templates for communication with parents and bookkeeping ideas were especially helpful. Highly recommended!

Some good information, but not very useful for established teachers.

I really think this would be best for people just starting out, like a recent college graduate, to get the basics on tutoring. I am pretty specialized (high school biology, chemistry, physics and ACT science prep), have a website already and have a teaching job already.

I definitely think that some ideas got me to think about good marketing strategies, and for that, it was worth the price on kindle.

French Algerian novelist Bouraoui explores growing up torn between two identities in this spare, emotionally arduous narrative. The daughter of a blonde, blue-eyed French mother and a well-educated Algerian father, young narrator Nina is deeply conflicted about her identity. She shields herself from the Arab dictates of women's behavior by becoming a tomboy with short hair, a mannish swagger and a boy's nickname; she is devoted to a boy of similar mixed identity named Amine with whom she navigates the violence of newly independent Algeria during the 1970s. The underlying menaces of disenfranchisement and racism torment their childhoods, until the two friends are separated. In the novel's second half, Nina spends summers at her grandparents' house in Rennes, where she must assume a new identity as a French girl while being constantly reminded that she is a foreigner. Bouraoui's quiet and inwardly focused coming-of-age novel delves deeply into intimate questions of self-definition—and ultimately the urge to become a writer. (Dec.)

About the Author
Nina Bouraoui was born in Rennes, France, to an Algerian father and a French mother. Shortly thereafter, she moved with her family to Algiers, where she lived until the age of thirteen. Bouraoui received the literary prize Prix du Livre Inter in 1991 and the Prix Renaudot in 2005. Marjorie Attignol Salvodon is an assistant professor of French at Suffolk University. Jehanne-Marie Gavarini is an associate professor of art at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and a visiting scholar at the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University.

A place in-between

This is a book about in-between-ness. About a young woman searching for her identity and finding that it doesn't fit neatly into any of the categories she sees around her. Nina is the daughter of an Algerian father and a French mother, living in Algeria during a time of rising conflict between Algeria and France, and her identity is being pulled apart at the seams.

Nina's state of being in-between in terms of national and cultural identity is mirrored in her struggle with her sexual identity. The English title "Tomboy" seems too trite of a translation - the French title conveys more of a sense of something in her gender identity being lacking, missing, lost. The fact that the story unfolds in Algeria makes Nina's struggle with her femininity even more poignant - in this context separation from the world of men involves a constriction of so many aspects of life. So her struggle continues: French or Algerian? Male or female? Child or adult?

The language and style of this book are as important - or more so - than the plot itself. The language is forceful, sonorous, repetitive - like waves breaking against the shore. There's hardly any dialogue: it's an internal story, strewn with thought fragments and angst. The language itself takes on such importance that the book almost reads as poetry in prose form. I couldn't call it an enjoyable book, but it's a powerful ode to the displacement and identity confusion that stem from wars like that in Algeria during the 1960s.

Thorough and informative

I would re name the book Everything You Need to Know about Annuity because the book was detailed and written for someone who doesn't know very much about this subject as well as someone knows a lot but needs a desk reference. The book covers the basics and includes advance information. The advance information was easy to understand because the basic foundation information had been presented. I loved the definition section best. The definitions were easy to understand. I didn't feel overwhelmed or confused. The book is short but filled with useful information. I will definitely keep this as a reference. I recommend this book to all adults. All of us need to know and understand the information it explains.

This book is a short, dense read, packed with information. Along the way McLeod leaves many nuggets regarding things to beware of and explains details that matter to how you set up your annuity. This book should serve as a great reference for your retirement planning library. Mr. McLeod demonstrates a deep understanding of the subject and presents it extremely well. Highly recommended.

A 400-page memoir from the Quiet Beatle? Can it be? Well, yes and no: only about 60 pages of this earnest tome, originally published in 1980, are devoted to Harrison's recollections of life before, during and (notably) after the Beatles. His memories, which manage to feel fresh and distant at the same time, come to readers via transcripts of his conversations with Derek Taylor (1932-1997), the Beatles press officer and ghostwriter of Brian Epstein's memoir. Harrison (1943-2001) was only in his late 30s when I Me Mine came out-the Beatles had formed, changed music forever and disbanded before his 28th birthday. The rest of this volume consists of photos with whimsical captions ("the author enjoying a cheese sandwich with some friends" is assigned to a picture of Harrison with a sitar) and facsimiles of his handwritten lyrics (including a fairly different version of "Taxman"), each accompanied by a brief explanation (ideas expressed in "It's All Too Much," for example, were inspired by LSD and "confirmed in meditation"). Most of the songs were composed after Harrison's immersion in Hinduism; divorced from their melodies, lyrics espousing love, peace and harmony tend to take on a certain sameness. This volume offers much to Beatles zealots, but for the casual fan, Harrison will likely remain as admirable and as inscrutable as ever. B&w photos and illustrations throughout.

Originally released in 1980, this volume includes some very casual recollections by "the quiet one" about his life, including his Liverpool childhood and interest in music, meeting the other kids who would become the 20th century's most influential band, his fascination with Eastern religions, and more. The book features roughly 50 photos taken throughout his life, but the meat of the book is the more than 80 song lyricsDmany of which are reproductions of his hand-written sheets with corrections intactDalong with background on each. There is also a new introduction by Harrison's widow. For millions of diehard fans, there is no such thing as too much information on the Beatles, so this should circulate well.

'I, ME, MINE' is a tasteful, expanded reprint of the closest thing to a George Harrison autobiography.' TIME OUT (4 11 Dec). The DAILY EXPRESS has also given the book a mention. 'If sales of THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY are anything to go by, public demand for new Beatles product is as strong as ever. While, I, ME, MINE is not strictly speaking a new book, such is its rarity, except at Beatles memorabilia fairs (at vastly inflated prices) that is 400 pages and 200 illustration will be treated asa newly discovered treasure trove of insider detail about the biggest band in pop history.' Barry Forshaw PUBLISHING NEWS 9/8/02 Olivia Harrison is not doing any interviews apart from an American chat show (although there has been a lot of interest from the national press) and we do not have serial rights, so we are concentrating on reviews for I, ME, MINE. Capitol Records released 2 versions of George Harrison's last studio album, "Brainwashed", on 19/11. The memorial concert at the Royal Albert Hall has been covered in HELLO and some nationals.

A Real Gem

Be warned that this is not an autobiography in its entirety. However, it contains the most true biographical content you will find in print about George Harrison. This book is made up of three parts. The first is a short biographical section written by George himself, and by a man by the name of Derek Taylor, a very close friend of George's. While that section is far shorter than any curious fan of George's would like, it is none the less very entertaining, and funny. A true "Must Read", if you will. The second section is the words to nearly all of his songs that were written prior to 1980, when the book first came out. Along with the words are a comment from George about each song. Many of the comments are quite amusing and insightful. The third section is made up of photographs. This edition also comes with an introduction to the writing of this book by George's wife, Olivia, that is truely endearing. If you want to begin to get an idea of George Harrison's sense of humor and personal views on a wide variety of subjects, and if you just plain love George Harrison, GET THIS BOOK! Amen.

I WANT TO TELL YOU

As an inveterate Beatles' fan, it comes as no surprise that I would heartily endorse this book. Long dubbed the Quiet Beatle and other similar cliches, George Harrison does indeed offer his voice and reflections in this work. Always a private man, George's wordings here can be described as almost cryptic.
This work provides readers with a "glimpse" of George growing up; the former Beatle describes his working class roots in Liverpool, his musical muse and later, his work as a gifted composer, guitarist and lyricist. Indeed, George Harrison has expanded musical horizons; in 1965 he became enamored of the sitar and included it on several songs on "Rubber Soul" and later collections.
His lifelong quest for spiritual knowledge and core belief system are explored; indeed, it is in his own words he explains that he does not follow an "organized" or "traditional" religion, but rather bases his spiritual feelings around his internal beliefs.
I like the input the artist's wife Olivia offered; her words are a welcome and added treat to this work. Indeed, it is Olivia's contribution that make the reissue of this work even better and more effective in touching readers.

Check out Guitar George, he knew all the chords

It has never been acceptable merely to be passionate about The Beatles collectively: You MUST have a personal favorite. John Lennon was always mine, by dint of his court jester persona and his wordsmithing, with George Harrison a close second. Being shy myself, I identified with the so-called Quiet Beatle and liked his scornful "don't bother me" attitude, which was integral to so many of his songs. Harrison's meticulous and versatile guitar work, never show-offish and always tasteful, was my main inspiration for wanting to learn to play, too. The Beatle least comfortable with his immortality, Harrison could be openly contemptuous of Beatlemania and often referred to himself ruefully as Beatle George, a title he felt he could never live down. Off-putting to some, maybe, his cantankerousness only made Harrison more interesting to me.
Predictably, Harrison takes a larkish approach to telling his life story. In his foreword, he facetiously calls "I Me Mine" (named after a forgettable tune from "Let It Be") "a little ego detour," but the book's tone is actually rather self-effacing. It's not an autobiography per se, although there is a six chapter text section that hits the high points of Harrison's life up until that time (late Seventies) and allows the mystical Beatle to rhapsodize on some of his passions: spirituality, gardening and, surprisingly, Formula One motor racing. Written by Harrison in a conversational style, with extensive "notes" by longtime Beatles confidant/press officer Derek Taylor, the text is a rambling sketch of a very private man determined to stay that way. (A clue to Harrison's reticence is found in the book's "backword," where he includes the cryptic quote, "Tell not all that you know because he who tells all that he knows, often tells more than he knows.") Luckily for his admirers, Harrison would more forthcoming, particularly on Beatle matters, in "The Beatles Anthology".
The photo section (48 black and white plates) is extraordinary, with lots of unique snaps that haven't seen print before in countless other Beatle books. Two of my favorites: a box of Good News chocolates, the inspiration for Harrison's "Savoy Truffle" from "The White Album," and a cancelled check for one million pounds paid to Inland Revenue, which the notorious taxman-baiter calls "punishment for being cheeky and making lots of money."
The bulk of the book is devoted to examining Harrison's songs, beginning with "Don't Bother Me" from "Meet the Beatles" (1964) through "Blow Away" from the excellent "George Harrison" LP (1979). For each song, Harrison provides a brief (usually) insight into his inspiration and shares his original, handwritten lyric sheets, replete with notes and illustrations. While words were never really Harrison's forte, it's still fascinating to glimpse a Beatle's creative process in such detail. The book includes the final versions of Harrison's songs as they were recorded, and it's interesting to compare them to the working models. "Taxman," in particular, was very rough indeed until Lennon offered Harrison the use of his acid pen - a fact Harrison curiously fails to mention here.
TRIVIA NOTE: The book's first edition was a signed, limited edition of 2,000 numbered copies, hand-bound in leather, by Genesis Publications, Ltd., Guildford, Surrey, England. My humble copy of "I Me Mine" is a 1980 Simon and Schuster edition, a birthday present from my sister (George was her favorite Beatle) in 1983.

Millard J. Erickson is Distinguished Professor of Theology at Baylor University's Truett Seminary and at Western Seminary, Portland. He is a leading evangelical spokesperson with numerous volumes to his credit, including Christian Theology, Does It Matter What I Believe? and Postmodernizing the Faith.

very scholarly, reads like a textbook

This new edition of an earlier work is a very evenly balanced, scholarly work. It reads like a history book in some places and like a textbook in others. There are no dogmatic assertions made for any position, and the author's own opinion is well hidden -- you do not even know what it is until the end of the book.
The book covers a great deal of material including overviews of the traditional viewpoints of the millenium and the timing of the rapture. It includes basic arguments from each position and the persons who are the spokesmen for those positions. One of the prominent features is that evaluations are given of both positive and negative aspects of each position which is a big plus. While the arguments do not go into the greatest detail, they are not unduly brief so as to be unuseful. The scholar as well as the layman will find the book inviting.
Although the book is a newer addition and covers the recent trends in dispensationalism for example, it does not have information about the prewrath rapture position, which is becoming a major theory. It does however cover some of the less popular, or "mediating" positions such as the partial rapture view and the imminent posttribulational view.
This is a very informative and well written book. The author is quite fair to all positions and never engages in personal attacks. The book was written at the request of seminary students for an objective reference to the different eschatological options they would have when they would someday minister. Written by a scholar with the heart of a minister, their request has been well served in this book.

Informative, Organized, and Balanced

What I appreciate most about this book is its organization. In particular, part 2 of the book, the various millennial positions, employs these subheadings for each chapter: Overview, History, Tenets, and Evaluation (both positive and negative); since each view uses the same subheadings, it allows for easy comparison. Part 1 of the book, Background Views, was interesting reading; however, I didn't see how it connected with parts 2 and 3. Then again, I confess I haven't read widely in this field. I thought the presentation of each of the millennial views was more clear in this book than in Clouse's "The Meaning of the Millenium," although I enjoyed and recommend that book, as well.

Great Overview

Erickson does an excellent job of presenting various Eschatological views on the the Millenium and return of Christ. For each of the major views he presents a brief summary, history, the basic arguement for the position and its advantages and disadvantages. He presents each position from such a balanced perspective that one does not even know what his own view is until the very end.

My only disapointment with the book and the reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is that he barely even mentions the preterist view, as if it is not even worth considering.
