Great but disappointing :(

I loved the storyline...I loved the sex scenes (Holy crap on a cracker, were they hot!!!). But, I didn't like the story being split into three parts and was disappointed at the end. When I read a story, I want to escape the real world. I want to get sucked into the story & be taken along on an adventure...take me to another world. That's hard to do when you have to keep going back to Amazon to find part 2, part 3, etc...

James E. Maddux, PhD, is University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He is the former editor of the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology and former director of the clinical doctoral program at George Mason University.

Good update of the previous edition

Has more recent content than the 2008 second edition. There are some sections that could use more updates. For example, the chapter on substance use disorders cites use statistics from the 90s. Additionally, with the upcoming release of the DSM-5 in May of this year, it is likely that there will be a new edition written relatively soon to accommodate the changes. I would wait or buy a used version if you need it before the next edition comes out.

Some chapters are super biased, criticising DSM without concrete evidence instead of providing a balanced view of pros and cons. Biased writing ends up being too unscientific.

Finally! A Readable Textbook.

In Academia associated with counseling the grounds of the hallowed educational institutions are littered with crushingly dull, data-filled tomes that are read only because the reading is required. Editors Maddux and Winstead have published a remarkable exception. Drawing on authors and experts from all over, the editors have assembled a coherent, readable, informative, and engaging book.

I know that it is usual for many students to sell their books once a course is completed. This one is a keeper that I can foresee as a frequent reference.

One note: This book was published in anticipation of the release of the DSM-5. Now that the release has happened, I hope Maddux and Winstead team up to update this to the 4th edition.

About the Author

Rick Riordan is the author of the previous books in the New York Times #1 best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series: The Lightning Thief; The Sea of Monsters; The Titan's Curse; and The Battle of the Labyrinth. Great parent/kid book to read together

My 11 yr old daughter loves this series and asked me to read it with her. I found myself reluctantly enjoying these books. I like the hidden morality lessons and the mythological component, which has inspired her to learn about the Greek gods independently. There is a romantic component between the characters which I could do without, but it's all PG and nothing too hot and heavy. Violence is a component of the books but it is limited and not graphic at all.

Important collection of essays

This is an important and by no means uncritical collection of essays. Like so many other critics, it neglects Camus' collection of stories, Exile and the Kingdom, which ought to be considered as a single work as well as a collection of marvelous individual stories. Lovers of Camus the artist will find much to enjoy quarreling with, but also much to learn from.

Book focuses on an obscure form of Road Rally

The book is reasonably OK but it should be pointed out that the focus of the book is not on Road Rally in general but on Gimmick rallies and more specifically puzzle style gimmick rallies and even more specifically puzzles like word scrambles that may not involve looking out of the vehicle. The large majority of Road Rallies in the US are not of this type and the book does not venture to explain that there are in fact many types of Road Rallies and that it is narrowly focused on a pretty obscure type. With so few books on Road Rallying this one does a disservice to the rally community by selling itself as "Road Rally" without qualification. I admit I bought for the book title alone and I was very disappointed.

Step-by-step Clue Hunts

This book is not about a traditional road rally, but more a clue hunt how-to book. Clue hunts are generally run at night (for about 3-4 hours) and end at a restaurant or hall. Diane takes you step by step through the process, including clues, tips and forms. For anyone putting on a clue hunt, this is a great reference book!
